Hello there!

So late September and October are getting really busy for me, I had a great time twisting balloons at UNC Greensboro’s Homecoming Festival last weekend, and a GREAT Birthday Party show on Sunday and it seems that October is going to be THE month to catch the Professor Whizzpop Show at a public event… stay tuned though, more shows are coming soon but for now please come and say hello at any of the following;

1st October 2011- join me at Hey Day at WNC Nature Center in Asheville… I’ll be twisting balloons between 2.30 and 4.30 and performing a magic show onstage from 3.30 till 4pm!

Friday 7th October- Professor Whizzpop will be back at the one and only Hop Ice Cream Cafe… this time at their West Asheville Shop. The show is from 6.30- 7.30pm and I’ll be performing lots of new routines as well as a few old favorites… it’s not a Whizzpop Show without the massive magic wands!

Saturday 8th October- You’ll find me all day at Waynesville’s Church Street Arts and Crafts Show twisting crazy balloon creations!

Sunday 9th October- from 2pm till 5pm you’ll find me at High Vista Country Club in Mills River twisting balloons at a fundraiser for Asheville City Fire Department… come along and support this!

Saturday 15th October ( I think)- I’ll be performing the Whizzpop Magic Show and twisting balloons for the 5th Birthday Party of my little boy Beck at Sylva’s favorite Ice Cream Shop; Jack the Dipper … join us if you can!

Sunday 16th October- JUST booked for a fundraiser in Chandler NC for one of the local schools… more details to follow!

Saturday 22nd October- I’ll be twisting balloons at Cowee Baptist Church in Franklin NC for their annual fall fundraiser… you’ll find me there from 4.30ish till 7pm.

Saturday 29th October- another fundraiser… this time for Rainbow Mountain School in West Asheville… it’s a Harvest Hoedown and you’ll find me there from 12- 3pm… I’ll also be performing two twenty minute magic shows while I’m there… should be a blast!

Monday 31st October- HALLOWEEN… some private parties already booked but I do still have some time slots left!

And that’s all the public shows in October so far…. not to mention birthday parties, private events etc etc! Bookings are already rolling in for November, Christmas and into the New Year…. so call me TODAY to secure your event!

Once again I have to say I’m sorry for neglecting this lamentable “blog” for so long… but really if I was blogging all the time then I wouldn’t be performing and wow have I been performing!!

Bele Chere in Asheville at the end of July was the usual manic marathon balloon twisting session with over 2000 balloons twisted in three days… thank goodness for my balloon pump …. it was great to see so many families and kids enjoying the balloon creations… thank you all for stopping by!

Post Bele Chere I have kept very busy with birthday parties, back to school events and even a bit of busking… Waynesville has been good to me as usual booking me for the Haywood County Fair as well as for their Labor Day Block Party. Thanks Waynesville!

As we drift into fall ( with the occasional hurricane to liven things up) you’ll find me enjoying the cooler temperatures with a bit of street performing and a few fall festivals… check out my upcoming appearances for details.

OH…. and don’t forget I’m doing a new public show at the Hop Ice Cream Cafe in West Asheville on October 7th at 6pm…. www.thehopicecreamcafe.com for details…. I’ll be performing some new routines as well as a few old favorites… please come I want to fill the cafe, I’ll even buy the ice cream ( no…. I won’t!)

Hello there!

Thanks for joining me once again on the blog which I neglect only to say “phew…. sooo busy!”. It’s true though, the Professor Whizzpop Magic Show has been hectic at birthday parties and festivals while my free time has been spent street performing at Asheville’s Flat Iron pitch. My street show is really getting honed nowadays and last Saturday I had my most succesfull night EVER with the show ( fiscally speaking!)… strange since at eight o’clock that evening I was almost ready to pack up and go home since there appeared to be so few people on the streets!

The fourth of July weekend was a busy one too with appearances at quite a few country clubs, barbecues and Waynesville’s Stars and Stripes parade… not bad for a British guy!

This weekend coming I’ll be out and about in Asheville on Friday evening and then have a private booking on Saturday… then only one more weekend ( at a festival in Virginia) until Asheville’s Bele Chere… on of the busiest, craziest and most fun weekends of the year!! You’ll find me and my good friend Mark Deverges at Haywood Avenue and Walnut Street all weekend twisting balloons… please stop bye and say “hi!”

In August I’m working tons of private events as well as street shows and the usual fests… this year keep an eye out for my street show at the Haywood County Fair as well as in Cary at Lazy Daze… not to mention Asheville Vegfest, Waynesville Block Parties …. etc etc etc! See you there!

Hello there folks… well, the festival season is well and truly underway for me with some great street/ festival magic shows and plenty of balloon twisting afoot.

The weekend before last I spent the Saturday evening at Waynesville’s wonderful block party… there’s two each year so be sure to come to the next one on Labor Day weekend!

Last weekend saw me in Johnson City for one of my favorite annual festivals… The Blue Plum Festival. I spent the entire weekend twisting balloons for visitors and was challenged a good few times with bizzare and crazy balloon requests!   It was great to see so many people enjoying the festival and I had a few requests to attend other local events, more to come!

This weekend looks, so far, to be a quiet one before I get really busy again in late June through July. I’ll probably hit the streets of Asheville with my magic show on Saturday evening so if you are in town stop by and say hi… I’ve been working on a bigger and better finale for the season!

Hello there… I’ve had a super busy couple of weeks. Spring Daze in Cary was a great festival and one of my favorite of each season ( it actually tends to kick off the balloon twisting and festival season for me each year) while Spring Fling in Spartanburg got me back into the flow of street performing ready for the upcoming season.

Between festivals I’ve had some great birthday party magic shows in Sylva, Asheville and Waynesville…. happy birthday Bo and Maria from last weekend! Oh… and I managed to get out for some early season “real”- not festival street performing in Asheville just the other weekend…. one audience member was kind enough to take these pictures and forward them to me… I really like them!

Hello there! Thanks for visiting my blog…. just a quick blogstyle heads up to let you know where you can catch Professor Whizzpop and Tom Fool in the next couple of weekends.

This Saturday you’ll find Professor Whizzpop at one of my favourite annual events; the wonderful Spring Days in Cary NC. Uusually I’m there twisting balloons but this year they have the full ONE HOUR Professor Whizzpop Show at 10am and at 2pm… I’ll be twisting balloons between and after the shows and will finish both performances with a brand new DEATH DEFYING (hopefully) UNDERWATER ESCAPE (!!)…. the only such escape which is family friendly and not the least bit scary…

On Sunday I’m booked with private events and then… the following Saturday I’ll be at Spring Fling in Spartanburg SC working my street magic show. I’ve never worked this festival before and am really looking forward to huge crowds before the street season really gets underway!

Professor Whizzpop/ Tom the Magician/ Tom Fool!

Hello there once again…. well, the festival bookings are coming in thick and fast so I thought I’d post the dates where you can find Professor Whizzpop’s Magic Show and balloon twisting or the Tom Fool Magic Show at a festival, or event, near you! Right now I’m down in Florida working on my juggling…. hopefully the new juggling routine will be ready for the streets pretty soon!

April 30th- Come and see the Professor Whizzpop Show at 10 a.m. and again at 2p.m. at the Spring Days festival in Cary N.C. Between shows I’ll be balloon twisting for all the 50 000 or so visitors!

May 6th, 7th and 8th- Come and see the Tom Fool Street Show and the all new underwater escape show on the streets of Spartanburg SC during Spartanburg Spring Fling!

May 28th 6-10pm- I’ll be balloon twisting, and maybe doing a street show or two, on the Main Street of Waynesville NC  for their first Block Party of the 2011 summer.

June 3rd, 4th and 5th- I’ll be balloon twisting and possibly even doing a kids magic show at Johnson City TN’s Blue Plum Festival… I loved this event last year and am looking forward to bringing the wife and kids to see all the fun stuff in June.

July 4th- typically this date isn’t considered much to celebrate by us Brits ( !) but I’ll be doing my bit on the streets of Waynesville at their Stars and Stripes event from 11- 3pm. 

July 29th, 30th and 31st- ( hopefully) I’ll be blloon twisting alongside my good friend Mark Deverges at Bele Chere 2011… it’s sure to be fun!

August 7th- a return weekend to Asheville as I’ve promised to twist and magish at the first ever Asheville Vegfest… mmmmmm veggie burgers!

August 27th- you’ll find me balloon twisting in Cary once again at the awesome Lazy Daze street festival!

September 3rd- yet more Waynesville Balloon Twisting at one more Block Party 6- 10pm

October 8th- Twisting again at Church Street Arts and Crafts Show in Waynesville

You may have noticed some weekends still available amongst that lot… so give me a call for your Birthday Party, Festival or Fete and I’ll definitelly work something out!

Don’t forget the street performer season in Asheville is just beggining… you’ll find me busking there most weekend evenings until October! If you do stop by and say hello….

Professor Whizzpop/ Tom Fool…. Asheville Magician, Children’s Party Entertainer, Street and Festival Performer

Hello there!!! Did you know that the Professor Whizzpop Magic Show started as a street magic show in Chester ( England) when I was a teenager? Then, when I moved to Western North Carolina, and started performing magic again, I began on the streets of Asheville.

The reason for this is simple… if you want to be the best performer possible then take up street performing… it gives a magician the ability to improvise, think on their feet and perform under almost any conditions… plus you get to do your show over, and over, and over again so that it becomes polished.

So I got to thinking… this summer I’m going to busk again quite a lot. Probably on the streets of Asheville and Helen (GA) and while doing so I’m going to perfect a new magic, juggling, balloon art and MUSIC show I’ve been working on. It’s been in the planning stages for quite a while and is now ready for some road testing  at festivals…. sooooo, if you have a hometown festival which needs some entertainment, or an outside ( or even inside) event looking for some alternative entertainment then contact me at 828 506 3198 or through my website www.ashevillemagic.com or www.themagictomshow.com ( but wait, you knew that!) Hello there!

I go to a LOT of Birthday Parties… a LOT of them. You could even say that I’m a real party person and am definitelly one of the most fun guys to have at your party. Because I go to so many parties I sort of know what makes a good birthday party and what makes an… ahem.. not quite so good party. Here’s my top ten tips to help you make your party a tip top event!

1) Have your party indoors… or at least have the option of having guests pop inside the house. Who knows it may be scorching hot on your party day or even rain…. indoors, you’ll thank me for it!

2) Have a grown up in charge. I recommend that you book Professor Whizzpop for all your Birthday Party needs ( well I would, wouldn’t I?) but if the Professor can’t make it then try and make sure that there is a designated grown up coordinating the party.. someone to organise party games, to bring out the cake, to hand out goodie bags. Oh, and while I’m at it, the person doing this should NEVER be the birthday mom… for some reason birthday moms are always frantically overwhelmed at the party… give her a break!

3) Send out invites at least two weeks in advance and follow them up with an e mail… you can mapquest directions to the party and attach them in the e mail… that way all your guests will turn up! Oh, and don’t forget to tie at least three balloons onto your mailbox, it’s tradition.

4) Talking of balloons…. if you do tie balloons to the mailbox and you use helium then make sure that the balloons you use are made of mylar and not latex. Latex balloons lose “lift” very quickly when filled with helium and end up looking a little sad… mylar balloons fly for longer.

5) Don’t forget the candles. You’d be AMAZED how often get to a party only to find mom and dad frantically looking for candles. Fortunatelly I always carry a spare set of birthday candles in my magic show case.

6) Take anything you don’t want smashed…. and put them in an out of bounds” room. Parties for kids between 4 and 10 years old can get CRAZY.

7) Save the birthday food til the end of the party. Let’s be honest here, birthday party food is high on sugar and low on anything which isn’t sugar. This means tht if a child eats the birthday food he/ she is very likely to get a little sugar rush. As soon as this happens it would be very nice to send them home where they can suffer the inevitable sugar crash with their own family…

If you do have a party theme… pirates or Buzz Lightyear or princesses…. then make sure to have few spare costumes. That way any child who turns up and doesn’t have the full compliment of pirate regalia can at lest wear an eyepatch and weild sword… and won’t feel left out. Oh…. and don’t forget to let Professor Whizzpop know the theme… that way I can tailor make balloons to match the theme!

9) Leave the present unwrapping until after the party and don’t forget to note down who bought which present… it’ll make writing “thank you” notes much easier.

10)…. and finally. Book Professor Whizzpop for your child’s birthday party…. trust me, I’m a birthday party expert… you get to leave the show to me, I’ll provide the goodie bags, I’ll twist balloon party favors and even have a grand repertoire of games which don’t involve eliminating kids… all you have to worry about is having a great time!
